Meet the Fastest Processor On The Planet
Written by Ph@ntoM on November 21, 2008 – 8:50 pm -
Yes, Intel had introduced its masterpiece of all time - the Intel Core i7 processor line. Intel Core i7 is a monster despite a small tiny physical size! It is quad cored and has capabilities to process 8 threads a time! That’s doubled the capabilities of its quad core predecessor thanks to Turbo Boost and Hyper-Threading technology. It also broke the world record for the fastest processor, achieving an astonishing result of 117 for the SPECint_base_rate2006 benchmark test, in which no processor had ever broke the 100 bar. Price-wise, it’s going to be a whooping RM1000 or more.
Here’s detailed sources from lowyat.net
Video demonstrating the new making of the beast here. Man, Intel is really a small United Nation itself as there are many employees from many races and nationalities. Cool.
Additionally, here’s some comics from Intel making fun on describing Core i7:

Written by Ph@ntoM on November 18, 2008 – 5:45 pm -It’s been long since the last updates from me… Been quite busy on courseworks also post-FYP relaxation… LOL! Anyway, here’s some updates on the latest tech news… As we knew, the current global economy is going downwards… Many companies are going to suffer… Retrenchments in action everywhere now… I’m not sure if I was “lucky” to be graduated under such market conditions… But it’s a fact that it will be though for many for the following time to come.
So… many big guys (multi-national companies) are laying off employees… It seems that the technology world is going to be the same… just like Yahoo!… Lots of people left the company since the falldown of its proposed acquisition from Microsoft. Jerry Yang, Co-Founder and current C.E.O of Yahoo! is in the midst of a storm of the company’s situation and it seems he’s surrendering.

From my point of view, Yahoo! is an innovative company as they offer lots of integrted, value added services to web users. But what’s went wrong with the company? A simple answer is… It is less competitive compared to Google. Their share price drops because they cannot compete. It’s a realistic fact that they earned lesser than its rival and shareholders are unhappy. Now, with the global economic downturn, it worsen the condition. I think Jerry Yang was stepping down as for the company’s good since he can’t do anything for now.

Yahoo! needs a savior. Anyway, it would still be a good thing for Jerry Yang as he still remains as Chief Yahoo! and would continue to monitor his baby, letting a more capable man to drive it despite making it worse. Hopes Yahoo! could overcome and continues to savage the Web.

Written by Ph@ntoM on October 14, 2008 – 11:57 am -
It’s been over a decade since the Windows OS launched and various naming conventions were used over different versions launched during these years… From Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2003… until today’s Windows Vista and the server cousin Windows 2008…
Many people thinks that the Windows product had the worst namings of all time for Microsoft’s product…especially XP and Vista which does not have a strong meaning associated… Perhaps just for cool? Anyway, seems that Microsoft had found out that it doesn’t really make any sense at all… That is why they decided to name the next Windows release as Windows 7! Yeah! It’s quite official. It represents the 7th release of the Windows family.
Since a lot of complains were reported regarding Vista, thus Microsoft would really want to make a bet for Windows 7 as a lot of features and stability will be done based on the Vista core. Let’s just hope Windows 7 will be a better OS for the coming years. But when Windows 7 will be shipped? Perhaps within a year or two… Let’s see…

Written by Ph@ntoM on September 3, 2008 – 5:27 pm -
Yup! Google beta released their own open-sourced web browser - Google Chrome. So, what’s so unique with it compared to IE, Mozilla Firefox or even Safari and Opera? Well, I would rather say that it is SIMPLICITY! Yes! We knew that Google.com page is simple! right? So, their idea of simplicity was stretched to this new web browser. The UI is clean… yet it is fully functionality. Also, Google Chrome supports tabs. And of course, security is still prioritized. Google Chrome is also focusing on speed and stability whereas, it was benchmarked to be faster than IE 7, Safari and Mozilla Firefox! Wow! It also has some memory efficient mechanism especially for rendering java scripts and multiple websites loaded in tabs… As a result, it improves stability as well. I think Google is really logging a serious challenge to the web browser giants! Let’s see how it goes!
P/S: Do take a look at a comic created by Google to explain in-depth of Google Chrome! More info on Google’s official blog.
UPDATAES: After a night long of testing, I found that this browser initially loads faster… Rendering websites were lightning fast as well, especially opening in multiple tabs. Another thing that catches me was the memory consumption. It eats up relatively lower amount of memory compared to Mozilla Firefox by opening the same amount of pages! OK. Tat’s all for this time. More updates would be coming up after a period of “rigid” testing.
Check out some detailed testing by Lowyat.net here!

Written by Ph@ntoM on August 24, 2008 – 3:04 pm -Well… not really… It’s just that I stumbled upon and found out that AirAsia had started their own corporate blog! It’s called Just Plane Thoughts… It’s not just merely a corporate blog, but also a place where everyone can see the “inside” of AirAsia, life of dynamic AKers (AirAsia staffs) and also the most interesting part, trip reports from travellers travelling with AirAsia! Yup! I think AirAsia’a blog has one of the most creative feature where anyone can write a blog post there! Yes, it’s public! but of course must be provided with a valid AirAsia account ID (You can register at airasia.com).

Not long ago, Malaysia Airlines also publicly launched their own blog site - Living Malaysian Hospitality. The site also portraits insiders of MAS as well how MAS staffs work, travel and their lifestyle. It offers a good way for the public to know more about the airline industry and its a great marketing tool as well! In the mist of soared hiking jet fuel prices, I bet our local airlines are hoping to tap more markets, especially the online blogosphere! Anyway, take a look at these blogs! Perhaps one could find out “hot from the oven” promotions on the very first moment!

1 Comment »A New Way to Search - Cuil
Written by Ph@ntoM on July 28, 2008 – 6:23 pm -Just stumbled upon TechCrunch and discovered this newly launched web search engine - Cuil. Cuil is a revolutionary search engine which claimed to be the biggest search engine on the planet where it is able to search more pages than Google, MSN Live Search and etc, having over 120 billion indexed pages … Interesting… However, I’d done a little experiment on it and found that it doesn’t really seem true… I typed “vista crew”, but doesn’t seem getting any results for this site you’re reading… Hey! “vista crew” in Google ranked 3rd! LOL! Typed “vista-crew” to re-test and guess what? Cuil didn’t found any results for this keyword! It’s on 1st place in Google man! Haha… Anyway, Cuil is just an infant coming out recently, thus improvements are imminent.

Personally, I think their layout design is quite cool. Search results are displayed in grid-like columns instead traditional rows. Detailed quotes of contents are visible and it includes images from searched sites also! if any… Cuil also has a unique feature where you can navigate through other different suggested keywords at the “Explore by category” widget beside. It also has a “Safe Search” feature where you can filter out pornography or “illegal” sites out. Typing suggestion is also available… Overall, it’s clean and stylish… but, more search result should be included in one page despite merely 8 to 10 results per page.

It could boast a threat to Google! Why? because the founders of Cuil are ex-Googlers… ha… and the backgrounds of these guys behind Cuil are really experts and professional guys… PhDs in Computer Science, Mathematics, AIs… Woah… A truly interesting and priomising startup to watch.
*UPDATES: Cuil is “HOT” now as there’s many people testing it! Thus, their server was overloaded! LOL! So if you encountered unavailability, be patient to wait for their service to go back online…
