Mozilla Firefox 3 is out! Now!

Written by Ph@ntoM on June 18, 2008 – 11:06 pm -

After almost three years of development, the highly anticipated Mozilla Firefox 3 is out! with some really cool new features! of course, better security, performances and browsing experiences!

This new web browser is claimed to be 3X faster than its predecessor, Firefox 2 with over 15,000 improvements made! One of the most significant enhancements would be “Awesome Bar” in which it detects keywords typed by the user and intelligently suggest URL’s based on your browsing history and bookmarks. Hmm… quite a useful approach. Though IE7 has similar mechanism, but Firefox 3 arranges and presents them better, especially highlighting on keywords. Another highlight would be One-click Bookmarking and Tagging in which I like it very much because I usually bookmark pages a lot and it is quite hassling by clicking “Bookmarks > Bookmark This Page…” menu. This speeds up bookmarking processes. Additionally, it has tagging feature for easier finding and detection by keywords entered!

Ok… Security-wise… it is now intelligent enough to be able to detect malware or phishing sites and gives you a warning before you access them. It’s something quite similar to Google’s approach where when you enter a potential threat site via Google search, it redirects you to a warning page. Now it is integrated into the browser thus levels up its security capabilities.

Well… theres a lot more new thingy implemented in this new browser but I think what were mentioned are intuitive enough… Looks like Mozilla is trying to overtake IE7 but I believe the upcoming IE8 will sure improve drastically… Oh yeah… User interface wise, it’s quite simplistic. However, I think I like Firefox 2’s more than the new one. Maybe I’m a bit old-fashioned (LOL!) but the new approach still does the job well… Perhaps you would want download it here

Written by Ph@ntoM on May 28, 2008 – 12:15 am -

OMG! Dell is going to reveal their new line of Inspiron notebooks! It’s so darn fast wei! Just about 1 year they launched their hot 1420, 1520, 1525, 1720 series and now… 1X35 series with totally new designs! From the leaked pictures, it seems that the new design was based on the recent XPS platform! Guess what? They implemented slot-in disc drive this time just like the XPS! Their keyboards is likely to have a very similar design like Sony’s CR series! But not too sure judging from the leaked pics… Also, they have the L-shaped lid design that was quite common on notebooks nowadays! In addition, they have new lid pattern design and colours! typically Orange that looks quite refreshing! Overall quite impressive… Scheduled to be out sometime around end of May till October…

Pics and news from Enagadget.com

Dell is also starting to put a lot of efforts on their laptop design, typically lid designs in order to compete with the like of… HP perhaps? We do saw some really cool designs from HP, especially their special editions… Now Dell is coming up with a similar approach! Rolling out customized designs collaborating with a N.Y street artist – Mike Ming. Dell launched two design patterns for the Inspiron 1525 Mike Ming Special Edition, “Sea Sky” and “Bunch O Surfers” drawings. It looks quite cool on the Inspirons… just like my “Chill” design, but with more vibrant colours… Hehe… Not sure will it be available at Malaysia… But anyway, it was indeed a really good thing offered by Dell. :)

Got Your .my 2LD Domains?

Written by Ph@ntoM on April 4, 2008 – 12:45 am -

MYNIC (The body that governs .my/.com.my/.net.my and etc. registrations) had released the .my 2nd level domain (2LD) registration to the public on 25 March! You can read an excellent post from HongKiat.com here. Since the launching, reception was extremely hot! Lots of hot domains were taken within the first few days… and I am lucky to be able to grab my desired 2LD domain – chua.my! Woot! It’s actually a short abbreviation of my full chinese name (which I dun really wanna disclose here… Keke… I think it’s pretty obvious lah…). Price wise, though MYNIC stated that registration costs RM120 maximum and varies according to resellers, but I managed to found one selling just RM80 per domain only! Wanna know which reseller? Ask me mah… LOL! (Just trying to prevent advertising lah…)

I think it’s going to be a nice asset if you got those really nice domain name. Of course, the nicest would be matching your name, such as sam.my (vellu???), re.my, tom.my, kim.my… Many hot phrases were taken by others… a few examples would be as follows:

  • business.my
  • blog.my
  • hello.my
  • to.my
  • oh.my !!!

Know what? google.my and youtube.my are even claimed by local registrants instead of Google itself! LOL! Anyway, it’s do really cool to have a .my domain under your name. Maybe you can find yours here
